According to a report from D1Baseball.com editor Kendall Rogers, Boston College coach Mike Gambino will be the next head coach at Penn State.
Gambino did not immediately respond to a call from New England Baseball Journal.
The timing of the news is a bit of a shocker in that Gambino recently agreed to a five-year extension at BC -- firming up a long-term commitment at his alma mater, where he's coached since 2010. The new contract came on the heels of a period in which Gambino’s future was in question after both of his paid assistants resigned from their positions in pursuit of higher-paying assistant positions.
Gambino expressed frustration at the time about the financial commitment of the BC athletic department to retain staff, but he indicated that he would continue as BC head coach.
