He followed up winning 2022 Futures League Pitcher of the Year honors by emerging as the top relief pitcher in the Cape Cod League this past summer.
Matson, who is the No. 10 prospect in New England Baseball Journal’s latest 2024 MLB Draft rankings, went 6-0 with five saves and 26 strikeouts across 21 ⅔ scoreless innings during the regular season as the closer for the Orleans Firebirds, who won their first Eastern Division title in a decade.
