It has been a rollercoaster year at the University of Hartford.
Less than two months after the Hawks’ men’s basketball team made its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance, in May, it was announced that the entire athletics department would prepare to transition to the Division 3 level.
On top of that, Justin Blood stepped down as head coach after revitalizing the program over 10 years. Blood, who led the Hawks to their first America East title and NCAA appearance in 2018, returned to his home state in July to lead Keene State.
After serving as Blood’s assistant for his entire tenure, Steve Malinowski (Kensington, Conn.) has taken over as head coach and worked to replenish his roster in the midst of the difficult circumstances.
