Rhode Island may have some new names on its lineup card when the new season begins in February, but Raphael Cerrato (Enfield, Conn.) says there is still a lot to like about the Rams entering his eighth season at the helm.
Even without four-year starting center fielder Austin White (Portland, Conn.), who graduated and transferred to Coastal Carolina, and the team’s top three hitters overall, Rhody possesses a deep roster and expects to remain competitive within the Atlantic 10 Conference and challenge for an NCAA tournament berth through another challenging schedule.
That depth especially shows through on the mound, where Cerrato expects determining his starters -- and pitching roles in general -- to be a good challenge.
After winning five games apiece a season ago, fifth-year senior Ryan Twitchell (Cumberland, Maine) and sophomore left-hander Trystan Levesque (East Lyme, Conn.) are among “five or six guys” competing for a spot in the weekend rotation.
