The Summer Rivalry Classic brought an end to an unexpectedly plentiful two-month stretch of showcase opportunities for New England's top college and high school prospects.
The annual late-August showcase traditionally caps the summer of highly scouted events for incoming seniors, but this year's game -- played at Dunkin' Donuts Park in Hartford, Conn. -- included some of New England's top college talent from the Futures League.
The Summer Rivalry Classic also included prospects from Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. While the final score of the game that pits the Red Sox scout team vs. the Yankees scout team is less important than the individual performances of players in front of a slew of college recruiters and pro scouts, the Yankees did earn bragging rights with a 2-1 victory.
The Yankees were coached by Yankees regional scouting director Matt Hyde. The Red Sox were coached by Red Sox regional scouting director Matt Hyde.
