The stage is about to get a lot bigger for Javar Williams.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound multi-sport star is on the brink of becoming one of New England’s most recruited athletes in the Class of 2023. For now, he can spend a quiet afternoon on the Tabor Academy football field — seemingly a man among boys while going through drills with his football teammates.
Up to this point, Williams (Dartmouth, Mass.) has flown relatively under the radar, due, in part, to a pandemic that wiped away his freshman baseball season and sophomore football season. He’s also managed to avoid the spotlight by choice — by playing for a lesser-known travel team in the Bay Sox, and turning down invitations for campus visits and showcase events last summer so that he could focus on preparing for the football season.
Nevertheless, Williams won’t be able to keep a low profile for long with the way he’s been performing in his two sports of choice.
