Throughout the Northeast, the welcomed sight of baseball being played again this spring has been a long time coming. Founders League and Fairchester Athletic Association players have been patiently waiting for the return of the sport they love.
With last year’s pandemic squashing the entire spring high school sports landscape, student-athletes were left dazed and confused in the aftermath. Some more than others, especially during a college recruiting process in which a majority of players were unable to properly showcase their talents.
This year, after adhering to mandated protocols, prep programs rejoiced after being allowed to return to the diamond. This season has been a bit unorthodox as there is no official league play and no postseason tournaments. Coaches were on their own when it came time to schedule opponents.
New England Baseball Journal spoke to a number of Founders League and Fairchester Athletic Association coaches to get their feedback on certain individuals who have performed at a high level, and have made a significant difference within their respective club, over the first half of the season.
