The summer collegiate baseball season in New England has come and gone. There were new teams in the winner’s circle as the Cape League and NECBL seasons came to an end.
Led by a dynamic Massachusetts duo, the Bourne Braves ousted the defending champion Brewster Whitecaps to become the kings of the Cape for the first time since 2009. Brewster had won two of the four previous titles, including last year’s, against Bourne.
In the NECBL, the Fay Vincent Cup will reside on the island for the coming year as the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks won their first-ever championship. They ended an undefeated, five-win playoff run with a two-game sweep of the Vermont Mountaineers, who tied the league record for regular-season victories.
These were the top New England performers who competed for the Cape League and NECBL championships this month. Don't forget, the annual All-NEBJ teams for all of the region’s leagues will be announced soon.
