What college coaches think at prospect camps

By Wayne MazzoniApril 1, 2018

Like most college coaches, I’ve run and attended hundreds of prospect type camps over the years. It’s part of the job and the recruiting process. As a high school player (or parent/coach), you already have attended many of these camps or soon will.

So I thought it might be both fun and informative to get inside the mind of what a college coach thinks while at these prospect/showcase/recruiting camps.

As with all other aspects of the recruiting process, we are hoping every time we go recruiting that we find a player who both fits what we need on the field and in the classroom, but also that this player likes our school and program. It’s the same at a showcase-type camp. For this reason, most coaches prefer to attend their own school’s camps as they know right away that the players attending their camps are interested in their schools.
