Why coach? Because it makes a difference

By Chris FayMay 1, 2018

In my position with the Positive Coaching Alliance, I travel throughout New England speaking with the board of directors of youth sports organizations.

In January, I was driving south on 95 when I asked myself a question, "Why do they do it?"

Why do these dedicated group of volunteers meet in dingy halls in the dead of winter to coordinate the details around a youth sports league? It is certainly a thankless job. As one Little League president remarked, "I receive about 50 complaints for every person who simply says, ‘Thanks for doing this.’ Oh well, it comes with the territory, and I am certainly not doing it for any recognition."
