Salisbury School coach Kevin Huber is starting to build a resume that can compare with some of his legendary predecessors like Dan Donato, Mark Leavitt and John Toffey.
Huber's 2023 squad clinched a Western New England Prep Baseball League Tournament championship on Tuesday with a 9-1 victory over Canterbury School in the conference final. It marked Huber's third WNEPBL Tournament title (2017, 2022, 2023) in seven years as coach, although two of those seasons did not have conference tournaments due to the pandemic.
This year was a little different for Huber's squad, as it was the first in his tenure in which the Sarum did not win a Young Division regular-season title. Regular-season losses to Canterbury and Cheshire Academy dropped Salisbury to the No. 2 seed out of the Young Division, yet the squad dominated the postseason tournament to cap a 17-3 season.
"We had to play on the road this time," Huber said. "We pitched exceptionally well and had some timely hitting. I think it says a lot as a program -- not just this team. Year after year, different guys come in and contribute. It's our development of players that makes us a little different."
