When the weather cools, the top amateur events heat up.
As October winds down, so too does one of the premier annual amateur baseball events as the 26th 18U WWBA World Championships takes place in Jupiter, Fla. Mostly reserved for seniors but also including the premier juniors, Southeast Florida became the capital of the high school baseball world last weekend.
The event, casually described as “Jupiter,” allows the top high school players across the country to showcase their abilities at Roger Dean Complex. Throughout the week, Power Four coaches typically flood the area to either get a look at their commitments. Some look to see if there are any late fits for their program. Alongside them are Major League Baseball amateur scouts from across the 30 teams as they scour for potential high-round, high school draft picks. While the MLB postseason rages on, organizations scan for the next wave of everyday big leaguers.
This year, however, many kids were left without that opportunity.
