The New England spotlight now shines on the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
After a 60-plus game regular season, the FCBL Championship Series will mark the final summer collegiate games played in the region this year. The scene shifts to Burlington, Vt., where the Vermont Lake Monsters and Pittsfield Suns will match up for the title.
The pairing of the FCBL’s top two teams -- and two cities with storied baseball histories together dating back to the Double-A Eastern League in the 1980s -- ensures that a first-time league champion will be crowned later this week, following either Wednesday’s game in Pittsfield or a deciding third game the following night back at Centennial Field.
First pitch for the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday in Burlington, Vt.
