When asked what impressed him most about his UMass Boston team early in the season, Brendan Eygabroat was quick.
“The strikeouts, the swings and misses by the pitching staff,” the Beacons’ 18th-year skipper said. “K’s are always good.”
If the first six weeks of the regular season are any indication, Eygabroat’s club won’t have trouble piling up K’s all spring. The Beacons currently rank second in the nation -- behind only Wilson -- in strikeouts per nine innings (12.5).
At the top of the heap is Alex Amalfi (Ashland, Mass.), a junior righty who is generating legitimate pro interest.
