Ten of New England’s 19 Division 1 clubs opened their seasons this past weekend and produced a mixed bag of results.
There were plenty of positives as UConn took on last year’s two College World Series finalists and finished its strong tournament with a win, Boston College and UMass Lowell grabbed three wins during their respective four-game series, and Merrimack made its debut a successful one against a team projected to win its conference later this year.
Like the Huskies, Rhode Island also finished its first set with a win. Though only half of the clubs that saw action picked up wins, there were still other strong performances off which to build as the season continues. Eight other teams open their seasons either this coming Friday or Saturday, so next weekend's slate of games will be nearly complete.
Once again in 2020, New England Baseball Journal will look back at the weekend that was for New England’s top Division 1 teams and players in this roundup each Monday during the season.
