WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Worcester Academy baseball team is the top team in New England in 2023.
With first-year coach Mike Abraham leading the charge and multiple D1 pitchers in the stable, Worcester (17-3) made it look easy in the Central New England Prep School Baseball League (CNEPSBL) Tournament, cruising to a home-field championship with two wins on Sunday. Worcester clinched its CNEPSBL championship with a 12-6 victory over Dexter Southfield at Gaskill Field.
"We've been talking about this since I took the job in the fall," said Abraham. "We capped off a special year. Players win games, and I can't thank them enough."
Worcester Academy won an earlier-in-the-day matchup with Phillips Exeter behind the right arm of 2024 MLB Draft first-round prospect Mavrick Rizy. Defending champion Phillips Andover had a disappointing performance in the CNEPSBL semifinal round against Dexter, falling 11-1 with Vanderbilt commit and first-round draft prospect Thomas White on the mound.
