While the baseball world has sat silent for months as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the Futures Collegiate League is still holding out hope to save its season and bring the game back to the field throughout New England this summer.
The region’s robust Division 3 ranks will still be well represented in a league that was founded to help give top New England players the opportunity to play in an elite summer environment that had long been provided by its two aforementioned neighbors.
In addition to that large crop of local D3 talent, the league will also see an influx of returning players from rosters in the canceled Cape Cod League and NECBL -- like Middlebury pitcher Alex Price (Ridgefield, Conn.), who is now a member of the FCBL’s newest franchise, the New Britain Bees -- and seniors taking advantage of an extra year of NCAA eligibility.
As all seven teams continue to construct rosters for the possibility of a 40-game season that would begin on July 1, here is some of the local D3 talent that Futures League teams are looking to showcase in 2020:
