New England draft prospects received bad news when Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association agreed to a revised format for the 2020 MLB Draft.
As part of the deal, MLB gained the right to shorten the 2020 draft to five rounds from 40. The impact on New England prospects will be sizable, with more players going the junior college route to remain eligible for the 2021 MLB Draft, and others returning to college for an extra season.
With that in mind, we decided to break down the draft prospects for the top 20 New England players eligible for the 2020 and 2021 drafts. Note that this list includes all players native to New England, but not non-natives at New England schools.
